Saat ditanya oleh teman tentang mikrotik maka penjelasannya sebagai berikut:
MikroTik RouterOS™ merupakan sistem operasi Linux base yang diperuntukkan sebagai network router. Didesain untuk memberikan kemudahan bagi penggunanya. Administrasinya bisa dilakukan melalui Windows application (WinBox). Selain itu instalasi dapat dilakukan pada standard computer PC. PC yang akan dijadikan router mikrotikpun tidak memerlukan resource yang cukup besar untuk penggunaan standard, misalnya hanya sebagai gateway. Untuk keperluan beban yang besar ( network yang kompleks, routing yang rumit dll) disarankan untuk mempertimbangkan pemilihan resource PC yang memadai.
Fasilitas pada mikrotik antara lain sebagai berikut :

Protokoll routing RIP, OSPF, BGP.
Statefull firewall
Hotspot for Plug-and-Play access
remote winbox GUI admin

Meskipun demikian MikroTik bukanlah perangkat lunak berlisensi bebas, dalam arti untuk menggunakan segala fasilitas yang tersedia pada perangkat lunak ini sejumlah lisensi harus dibeli. Versi uji coba hanya disediakan untuk penggunaan selama 24 jam saja. Perangkat lunak ini tersedia dalam bentuk cakram padat, ataupun DOM (bahas inggris: Disk On Module). Khusus untuk versi DOM, perangkat lunak MikroTik telah terpasang pada modul tersebut sehingga tidak memerlukan instalasi khusus, cukup dengan menancapkan modul DOM tersebut pada slot IDE yang tersedia pada komputer.(wikipedia)
Cukup rumit awalnya tetapi kalau dipelajari dengan seksama maka akan lebih menarik dan menyenangkan karena kita bisa mengeksplorasi router tersebut. untuk itu modul ini dapat digunakan untuk media pembelajaran sekaligus referensi.

CRIMPING

Teknologi Informasi pasti memperoleh materi crimping kabel yang digunakan untuk mengkoneksikan 2 PC atau lebih kedalam suatu jaringan.
Cara crimping :
1. Siapkan alat berupa tang crimping.

2. Kabel UTP (Unshileded Twisted Pair).

3. LAN tester.

4. Siapkan konektor RJ-45 (usahakan lebih dari 2 buah untuk cadangan pengganti).

5. Kupas kedua ujung kabel 1-2 cm.

6. Awalnya pasti kawat kabel memiliki panjang yang berbeda, kewajiban anda ialah merapikannya agar tidak terjadi kesalahan saat proses crimping.

7. Lalu urutkan posisi kawat kabel bagian kiri dan kanan sama untuk straight.
Urutan kabel tersebut sebagai berikut:

8. sedangkan untuk cross cukup mengubah salah satu ujung dari straight. Seperti ini :

9. Pastikan sebelum mengcrimping ujung kawat kabel telah tertata rapi dalam RJ-45.

10. Crimping.

11. Test dengan LAN tester apakah semua lampu LED sudah menunjukkan koneksi antar kabel.
Jika beruntung maka anda akan memulai lagi dari awal.
